Theo Rigby
Director
Theo Rigby is a director, cinematographer, and interactive storyteller based out of San Francisco. He has been creating stories focusing on the immigrant experience in the U.S. for over the last decade and is the founder of iNation Media. Theo recently directed and shot Waking Dream, a six-part series following a diverse cast of young undocumented people with DACA permits. The series was funded by ITVS, premiered on Indielens Storycast, and is currently reaching wide audiences through a multi-platform impact campaign. Theo also directed Immigrant Nation, a series of short films about immigration in the U.S. including The Caretaker, The Mayor, and Marathon, as well as an online storytelling platform, and series of live storytelling events. Immigrant Nation has been showcased on the New York Times, nationally broadcast on POV, shown at Ellis Island, the 2014 New York Film Festival, and 2012 Cannes Film Festival. The project received a MacArthur Documentary Film grant, as well as a Tribeca Institute New Media Fund grant. His film, Sin País (Without Country), won a Student Academy Award, has screened in over 30 film festivals, and was nationally broadcast on PBS’ Independent Documentary Series, POV, in 2012. Theo graduated with a M.F.A. in Documentary Film from Stanford University and before making films was an award-winning photojournalist working for major newspapers and magazines around the world.
Florencia Krochik
Director
Originally from Argentina, director Florencia Krochik’s past work has been supported by the Sundance Institute, Women in Film and Film Independent. Florencia has tied her personal experiences as an immigrant into her career as a filmmaker, bringing personal human stories to life, both to raise awareness and activate change.
Her first feature documentary film, THE REST OF US, followed the lives of a group of undocumented youth over an eight year period and was the Closing Night Film at the Downtown Los Angeles Film Festival where it also won “Best Picture”.
For the past decade, Florencia has directed world-renowned livestream broadcasts and branded content in the Action Sports sector for prolific properties with Bear Grylls, Tough Mudder and the US Open of Surfing. In addition to her work in Sports, she has directed commercials and digital shorts focusing on the stories of underrepresented communities, including campaigns for Doordash, Target and Ebay.
Daniel Chávez-Ontiveros
Editor
Daniel Chávez-Ontiveros is a multi-award-winning Mexican filmmaker. He studied for an MFA in Documentary Film and Video at Stanford University. His documentary thesis, 'EL CISNE' (2016) was awarded the UNAFF Youth Vision Award and the Audience Award in the Sexual Diversity Program at the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).
He works in the California Bay Area as a documentary editor. He edited the feature films '499’, 'SANSÓN AND ME', and ‘UNSEEN’. These films have screened and won awards at Tribeca, HotDocs, Sheffield DocFest. For his work on '499', Daniel was nominated for Best Editing in a Documentary Feature at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2020.
Daniel is a fellow of the Karen Schmeer Editing Film Fellowship and he was included in the ‘40 under 40 Documentary Filmmakers’ list, organized by DOC NYC and HBO Documentary Films.
He's also co-director of Video Consortium México (VCMX), a non-profit organization that focuses on creating community in the documentary scene in Mexico and promoting the work of Mexican documentary filmmakers.
Paula Heredia
Consulting Editor
Paula Heredia is a celebrated award-winning documentary filmmaker and editor. Paula received an Emmy® Award for her work in the acclaimed HBO documentary In Memoriam, NYC 9/11/01. She has also been the recipient of the prestigious American Cinema Editors-ACE Eddie Award® for the acclaimed documentary Unzipped. She received her second ACE Eddie Award® nomination for the HBO series The Weight of the Nation. For her documentary Africa Rising, Paula received the Best Woman Director Award at the International Documentary Film Festival in Soria and at the Festival of Cine Invisible in Bilbao, Spain. Paula received the Humane Society’s Genesis Award for her film Toucan Nation. Her most recent work Imelda is Not Alone was awarded with the Audience Award at the Florida International Film Festival and Best Film at Cine Las Americas Film Festival in Texas, and Festival de Cine Invisible in Bilbao Spain. Paula’s creative work is featured in the book, The Art of the Documentary by Megan Cunningham and Stephen, The Art of the Cut.
Gerardo Villareal
Sound Designer
Gerardo Villarreal is a passionate sound designer that has dedicated his life to weaving sound waves with feeling and depth. Gerardo founded his audio company called Nectar Sound in 2009 which, in his 15 years trajectory, has been nominated for best sound in Mexico's prestigious Ariel ceremony and has worked in award-winning films like El Norte Sobre el Vacio, El Valiente ve la Muerte Solo Una Vez, Midday Cowboy amongst other films. Gerardo's body of work covers both non scripted and scripted projects working for over 20 feature films and 15 short films in the last 15 years.
Orlando Torres
Assistant Editor/Production Sound
Orlando Torres is an award-winning filmmaker from Fairfield, California. A jack-of-all trades, he has worked as an editor, assistant-editor, DP, grip, and gaffer on Oscar-nominated feature documentaries, feature films, and live concert events. He has directed and produced his own award winning films and music videos.
William Fritch
Composer
William Ryan Fritch is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist who, since 2008, has composed the music for over 100 documentary and narrative films. Some notable projects ithe 2024 SUndance Stand out doc "As We Speak, " 2021 Emmy-winning documentary “The Rescue List,” the 2020 multiple Emmy-nominated “Into the Canyon” for Disney+, the 2021 Independent Spirit-nominated narrative film "Bull," the 2016 Academy Award-nominated "4.1 Miles," and the 2020 Peabody-winning documentary “A Different Kind of Force."
His compositions and scores have been lauded as "beautiful and evocative” (The Hollywood Reporter) and “piquant, lively, and imaginative” (Variety) and have made multiple music journalists' year-end lists for the best original soundtracks. In 2020, A Closer Listen said, “Fritch is easily the best film composer who hasn’t yet landed a major motion picture; it’s only a matter of time.”
